The Stage is Set for a Dramatic Finish to the 2018 UEFA Champions League

So far it has been quite a crazy year in the UEFA Champions League. The sound of 16 draws brought on tantalizing matchups between big-spenders, Paris Saint-German against defending champions Real Madrid. The Round of 16 included five seemingly dominant English Premier League teams. Manchester City cruised to a 5-2 victory in aggregate over Swiss side FC Basel. Liverpool’s magnificent front three thrashed Portuguese giants, FC Porto, 5-0 in aggregate. However, Tottenham Hotspur did fall short after their triumphant first leg, come from behind, draw against the Italian champions and last year’s runner-up, Juventus. These exciting games are best enjoyed when you are surrounded by dozens of other fans from your favorite team! “The biggest club in the world,” Manchester United were rudely upset by Spanish side Sevilla. After a scoreless first leg in Spain, a brace by Wissam Ben Yedder lifted Sevilla over the Red Devils in the second leg. Ben Yedder’s goals came within 4 minutes of each other and only a few minutes after he was subbed on. Sevilla’s leading scorer made history at Old Trafford, forcing Manchester United to an early Champions League exit. Perhaps one of the best matchups of the Round of 16 ties was FC Barcelona battling Chelsea FC. After a 1-1 draw in the first leg, Lionel Messi and Barca quickly put Chelsea’s quarterfinal hopes to bed with a convincing 3-0 win.

Now that the rollercoaster ride that was the Round of 16 has come to a close, the stage is set for the eight best clubs in Europe to face off. Draws were announced Friday, March 16, 2018.
