How Will Fantasy Sports Operators Stay Relevant & Engage Fans In The Dog Days Of COVID-19 (Coronavirus)?

Fantasy sports is a big part of American culture. It is a key driver behind thousands of Watch Parties organized by bars and restaurants.  The COVID-19 pandemic swept through the nation like wildfire bringing mainstream sports to a halt.   Traditional operators now need to get creative and stay relevant within the sports community. The national directive to self-quarantine would be much easier if live mainstream sporting events were running.  They would serve as a great distraction from the seriousness of this virus affecting us all.  StatementGames Inc. is one operator that continues to unite and engage sports fans through there platform.  The StatementGames Inc. platform operates a game with a twist on daily fantasy sports.  Even in the dog days of COVID-19, games are available for play daily.

Canadians’ Love for Hockey – Why it’s Here to Stay

Canadians are more in love with their national sport of hockey than ever. That might seem like a sweeping statement until you look at the statistics. A MasterCard survey discovered 83% of Canadians watch hockey every single week. The country has long had a love affair with the game, and that passion is not going away any time soon.

Hockey Is Tied to the National Identity

Canadians are incredibly proud of their country’s ice hockey-playing history. Their love for the game is largely due to the fact that it was actually invented in their country. However, the sport’s origins come from Europe. Immigrants to Canada brought stick and ball games with them. The games were designed to be played on grassy lawns in warm climates, but the new Canadians soon found ways of adapting the games to play them on frozen lakes. Not before long, ice hockey became a recognized and extremely popular sport. Without the adaptation of foreign games and the cold climate of the icy Canadian winters, hockey would never have been invented in the country. As ice hockey took off in Canada, the Stanley Cup was introduced in 1893. It started as an amateur championship before it became a professional tournament in 1906.

How ONE Championship Engages and Gains More Fans Through Digital Platforms

Over the years, Asia-based mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion ONE Championship has taken the sporting world by storm. Their recently concluded 100th live event, aptly titled ONE: CENTURY, drew a record-breaking 85 million viewers across 145 countries, across all platforms. The event, which featured former world champions Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson and Eddie Alvarez, also marked the promotion’s first foray into the United States’ primetime TV slot.

Another fascinating tidbit on the ONE Championship’s historic card were the number of viewers watching through the company’s live terrestrial TV and other online partners. Joe Streeter of Insider Sport shared that in China alone, more than 10 million fans watched the highly anticipated occasion live on various streaming devices. Current Chairman and CEO, Chatri Sityodtong, even claimed how these numbers have just barely scratched the surface of its full viewership potential in the region.

This, in more ways, is a testament to how ONE Championship engages and gains more fans through their digital platforms.

While there are countless NBA fan clubs and even fan clubs that organize watch parties for sports like golf, what about those other sports that fly under the radar? These are the sports that everyone plays but because of the nature of the game, they may not actively watch it on TV or even have a favorite player. We are, of course, talking about poker. The game that pretty much everyone can play, but that still manages to stay out of the spotlight until the World Series of Poker (WSOP) rolls around.

Interestingly, we’ve discovered that there are very few poker fan clubs in the US. Sure there are plenty of poker tournaments organized by groups on Facebook, but the sport is really lacking some dedicated fan clubs to bring poker fans together outside the normal setting of a competitive game.

So if you’re a regular poker player and an avid fan of the game, then it’s time you started your own fan club. But what’s so great about poker fan clubs anyway?
