This organization has been flat out killing it recently. With record of 65-17 last year, and finishing first in the Western Conference in the regular season, their hot streak seemed to carry over into this year. Still need a hint to who it is? Fear the Beard. The Houston Rockets are #3 on FanWide’s Top Ten NBA Teams ranking. Coming off his MVP season, James Harden has been leading the charge for the Rockets. They currently pose one of the biggest threats to making a strong push in the playoffs and possibly winning the Finals. Nevertheless, the success of the Houston Rockets franchise does not start with James Harden. Many big names have put on a Rockets jersey such as Dikembe Mutombo, Robert Horry, Kenny “the Jet” Smith, Charles Barkley, Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming, Clyde Drexler, Moses Malone, and of course Hakeem “the Dream” Olajuwon. The list goes on and on with legendary Rockets players. They all contributed greatness to the organization, hence placing the Rockets 3rd in FanWide’s Top Ten NBA Teams ranking.

Here’s the list of teams which have been announced so far:
7) Miami Heat
3) Houston Rockets
The NBA is unique in many aspects of fan support. It is very difficult to rank a team based solely off of their on or off court success. Therefore, FanWide chose to use data from both categories to create a ranking that is one of a kind. All the metrics used in this ranking were weighted equally in order to ensure there was a balance between the different factors. Additionally, all of the metrics were applicable to all 30 of the NBA teams. As a result, our top ten ranking is the most balanced and unique ranking for NBA teams. More information about our methodology can be found here. FanWide will be releasing the top ten NBA fan clubs in the next few weeks.

Fan Clubs on FanWide: 50 (5th)
It is without a doubt that the Houston Rockets have some of the most rowdy fans across the league. ESPN even pointed out that fact. This high spirited Rockets fans are not just located in Houston though, fan clubs for the Rockets can be found all across Texas and even in Chicago on FanWide’s Rockets page. If you are part of a Rockets fan club make sure to register on FanWide.
NBA Championships Since 1977: 2 (8th)
I’m just going to say this now, I believe that the Rockets will win another championship in the next few years, which will push them up in this metric. Currently, both of these championships occurred back to back in 1994 and 1995. This collaborative effort was led by Hakeem Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler, and Robert Horry. With the current success that the team is having and James Harden looking at possibly another MVP award, Houston will get another ring soon.
All-Stars (last 5 years): 6 (7th)
The Rockets are flat out stacked. They have one of the most dominant rosters across the league and it shows not only in their play or their record, but also the number of all-stars they have had in the past five years. James Harden and Chris Paul have been leaders in this statistic as they never fail to make a strong push towards getting voted in or coming close.
National Games Televised Last Year (ABC, ESPN, TNT, NBA TV): 39 (3rd)
This is no surprise. If you are surprised, then just watch Rockets game on TV. They’re hard to miss because there are 39 of them, broadcasted nationally. Big television networks love to broadcast Rockets games. Not only are they one of the best teams across the NBA, but they are also a whole lot of fun to watch. What could possibly be better than sitting back and turning on a Rockets game to see James Harden lightly drop 40+ points. I can’t think of anything better.
Wins (last 5 years): 271 (2nd)
The 2012-2013 NBA season was James Harden first season as a Houston Rocket after being traded from the Oklahoma City Thunder. On his former team, Harden was already putting up big numbers and making huge impacts to the game, yet this turned up a notch as he became the star of the Rockets. In the past 5 years, the Houston has made an appearance in the playoffs every year. This is not as easy as it sounds because they are in the tough Western Conference with the Warriors and Thunder. Moreover, the Rockets have recently finished towards the top of the conference in the regular season. This metric is a clear representation of their recent on court success.
Attendance (average): 17,900 (16th)
There is an explanation to such a powerful team having an average home attendance. This is caused by the quantity and quality of Houston sports. Houston is one of the most dominant sport cities with strong teams such as, and not limited to, the Texans, Astros, and Dynamo. Currently, Houston is its Golden Age for sports. Furthermore, Rockets fans in Texas are mostly limited to the Houston area as other cities such as Dallas and San Antonio have a lot of strong sports teams. Nevertheless, Rockets fans prevail and still manage to fill almost 18,000 people in Toyota Center on average. Going off of the fact that Toyota Center has a maximum capacity of 18,300 people, filling close to 98% of the arena is very impressive.
Value (in billions): 2.2 (7th)
Houston is the 4th largest city in the United States, meaning that it is the 4th largest market in the United States. I believe that Forbes, did an accurate job in evaluating the worth of the Rockets franchise. What also contributes to $2.2 billion is the international aspect of the Rockets. They have played international games, yet what increased their global aspect the most was drafting Yao Ming and having him become the basketball legend he is today. Yao Ming was the first Chinese NBA basketball player and his on court success transferred into off court success for the Rockets such as marketability.
Total Followers (in millions): 16.68 (7th)
A lot of the Rockets success has come in the past with their stars. This is seen through their social media statistics. They have 3.3 million followers on Instagram, 2.78 million followers on Twitter, and 11.6 million followers on Facebook. The drastic difference between Facebook and other social media followers is a clear representation of their success in the past when Facebook was the only social media site operating. Once they win another championship, their social media metrics will shoot up.
If you plan on placing a bet for who will win a NBA championship in the next few years, play it safe and choose the Rockets. They are absolutely stacked, and they know how to use their talent to win. Additionally, James Harden has a very good chance at winning his second MVP award which would make it back to back years. Along with the legendary past the Rockets have, their new and future dominance has allowed them to place 3rd on FanWide’s Top Ten NBA Teams rankings.
