LaLiga, one of the premier leagues of European “football,” is quickly becoming a mainstay sport in the United States. As Boris Gartner, CEO of LaLiga North America stated, “We want to help grow LaLiga in the U.S.” (Digiday). With many of the top players in the world featured among Spanish football clubs, Americans could not be more excited about this development. So, what does this partnership between two of the strongest countries in the world (Spain and the United States) entail?
The first component regards youth soccer. US Club Soccer and LaLiga North America continues to build the Spanish structure of youth America soccer. By bringing thousands of Spanish coaches to the United States, LaLiga has put great emphasis on expanding and developing the game. This emphasis will only yield positive results for the United States—Spain relationship. With LaLiga’s focus on teaching training curriculum to coaches in order to improve the overall foundation of American soccer, LaLiga sees great opportunity in the American soccer market.
The next large aspect of LaLiga’s effort to build its profile in the United States pertains to media. LaLiga intends to expand the platform for Spanish soccer content in America through six daily and weekly shows including “LaLiga según Luis Garcia,” where news and highlights of Lionel Messi, Marcelo, James Rodriguez, and all of the world-class players in LaLiga will be displayed. “The Fans’ League,” a different television series, will provide a unique insight into American LaLiga fans, showing the craziest, most passionate football fans across the states. Finally, at the conclusion of the broadcast rights deal with BeIn Sports, LaLiga aims to improve its broadcasting of games in the U.S., providing American fans with access to the best football LaLiga has to offer.
With the expansion of broadcasting of LaLiga in the United States, FanWide will promote LaLiga events and help fans. FanWide is a free digital platform that allows out-of-market sports fans to find a LaLiga watch party at a sports bar in any city. As LaLiga prepares to become one of the most viewed leagues in the United States, Spanish soccer fans can use FanWide to find other local fans of their LaLiga team from the list below:
