The team’s usage of social media allows the fans to truly feel as if they are part of the team, interacting

with players and coaches, and understanding what goes through the minds of the team. The 524,000 Instagram followers, 740,000 Twitter followers, and 690,000 followers on Facebook allow the Nationals to incorporate the fans not only in D.C but around the country to into the lifestyle of the Nationals.

Pittsburgh Penguins NHL Watch Parties and Fan Club Events for PIT

In a city filled with sports teams, the Pittsburgh Penguins have a very large fan base. The city of Pittsburgh has the 7th most sports championships among U.S. cities. The Penguins themselves have five Stanley Cup wins since the team’s founding in 1967. The official Penguins has a Twitter account with 1.8 million followers. The Penguins also have 1.4 million followers on Instagram and just over 1.9 million Facebook followers. They have a total of 5.1 million followers across the 3 platforms.

Pittsburgh Pirates MLB Watch Parties & Fan Club Events for PIT

Other than being known as the Steel City, Pittsburgh is a city where everyone bleeds black and yellow. In fact, only black and yellow. The unique part of Pittsburgh sports, is that all professional teams wear black and yellow: The Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pittsburgh Pirates, along with the other Pittsburgh professional teams, have a lot of history. The Pirates are tied in seventh place for the most World Series wins. They won 5 World Series. They won in 1909,1925,1960,1971, and 1979. The Pirates were one of the first teams to ever be established, in fact they played in the first World Series (1903). Even though the Pirates are coming off of a not-so-good season, Pirates fans have a lot of hope in the Pirates’ future although there has been a four year playoff drought. The Pirates have a very good chance of surprising many people next season. The Pirates were going through cycles of mediocrity, so owner Robert Nutting fire the general manager, manager, pitching coach, and team president. Nutting wanted a change and understands that with a new culture, and a winning atmosphere, the Pirates can be rejuvenated into the Pittsburgh’s winning culture.

Located in the 6th most densely populated major city, the Miami Marlins have a very large, and diverse fan base. The Marlins are accessible to anyone from any city. The Marlins have 344k followers on Twitter and 700k followers on Facebook. They also have an additional 472k followers on Instagram. The Miami Marlins have a grand total of 1.516 million followers across the 3 major social media platforms.

As Boris Gartner, CEO of LaLiga North America stated, “We want to help grow LaLiga in the U.S.” (Digiday). With many of the top players in the world featured among Spanish football clubs, Americans could not be more excited about this development. So, what does this partnership between two of the strongest countries in the world (Spain and the United States) entail?

Tottenham Hotspur have been a dominant club on the pitch. With Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen, and Dele Alli leading the way, the Hotspur have become a force to be reckoned with. The Spurs have the sixth-highest number of Twitter followers among English Premier League teams with about 3.82 million. With 6.1 million Instagram followers, Tottenham Hotspur regularly posts engaging and informative fan content. The Spurs also have a significant Facebook following, with nearly 12.15 million followers, giving them a total of 22.07 million followers across the three social media platforms. Tottenham has developed a substantial social media presence that allows fans around the world to stay up to date with the Spurs.

With a rich history and eccentric players like Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, The Chicago Blackhawks have been a top contender in the National Hockey League in recent years.  Blackhawks fans are described as a tight-knit group and very passionate hockey fans. It is no surprise that the official team website is essential to the fanbase, connecting fans nationally through the “Community” tab. Playing their home games at Madison Square Garden (also known as “The World’s Most Famous Arena”), the New York Rangers have built a large network of fans. This is partly due to the team’s big market location, but it is also due to the team’s internet and social media presence. On both Instagram (956,000 followers) and Twitter (1.45 million followers), the Rangers have developed strong resources for fans. Both accounts provide constant updates and highlights so that the fanbase can feel connected with their team.

The Boston Bruins have a large and accessible social media portfolio, having the 11th best hockey fan base according to Fox Sports. While Bruin fans in Boston have an great attendance rate among NHL teams, fans across the country can access information on the Bruins wherever they may be. The Bruins have the 6th most Twitter followers out of all the NHL teams with 1.45 million followers (according to statista). Adding on, the Bruins have over 2 million likes on Facebook and an additional 1.2 million followers on Instagram. The Bruins have a total following of around 4.75 million followers on the major social media platforms.
